It's happened to many of us. We've paid for gas at the pump only to later find out that our credit or debit card information has been hacked. The frustration sets in when you have to cancel your card and make a claim to recover those funds. Well, the good news is that all gas stations in Florida will have to install chip readers at the pumps by 2020. However, that is not so good of news for small, independently owned convenience store owners who will bear the upgrade expense of upward of $17,000 per pump.
A potential SunRail station coming to DeLand is back in the news with renewed energy. The project fell off a few years ago due to a lack of funding. Currently SunRail tracks run 61 miles, only coming as far north as DeBary. A 12 mile segment to make DeLand the system’s northern terminus would cost more than $75 million.
You've likely heard, Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand made national headlines because of a giving initiative that paid off $7.2 million in crippling medical debt and funded 3 foster homes, all in one day. What many media reports did not mention is that the results were because of the generosity of approximately 350 families contributing, not just a few big contributors.
It would be a dream come true for many West Volusia residents! A recent blurb in the West Volusia Beacon reports that Aldi has submitted an application for a building permit to the DeLand Building Department. The permit has been approved by the Building Department but is waiting for approval from the Fire Department.
