In case you missed it, little old Stetson Baseball made national media earlier in May with a great article in The New York Times. The column deep dives into the recent success of the program and the new direction for continued building.
Convenience and safety is the name of the game at Forest Trace, a DeLand subdivision that is literally next door to Citrus Grove Elementary School. With sizable properties and more than ample square footage, this community has a lot to offer young families, or those of any age for that matter. We sat down with recent DeLand residents, the Martinez family, and asked why they enjoy living in Forest Trace.
One of the most sought after criteria for real estate in Florida is waterfront property. Although waterfront property is plentiful in our state, finding the right piece can be challenging, especially in a planned community. For those wanting it all, there is a community in DeBary that allows you to check several items off your waterfront checklist, including breathtaking views of the majestic St. Johns River.
Living in the heart of DeLand has it's advantages. Being close to Downtown, nearby schools and shopping can be highly sought after. Fortunately, there is an affordable option for families to take advantage of all of those convenininces within close proximatey.
DeLand is a wonderful place to raise a family as many will attest. Several communities are family friendly, allowing neighborhood kids to ride their bikes on sidewalks after school or starting pickup basketball games on the driveway. This is the life that many strive for, slower paced and relaxed. It is why many families move to DeLand and commute to Orlando as opposed to moving to the Greater Orlando area because of work.
If there is one thing that people love about living in DeLand, it's community. Neighbors can become more than just that, they can become friends. There is possibly no other residential development that embodies this better in DeLand than Victoria Commons.
Luxury homes sometimes seem they are so far out of reach for many. However, obtaining that dream home that is large enough for a homeowner with a growing family may be closer to a reality than you think. For those that are seeking a more luxurious DeLand community, the Timbers offers this and more combined with a location that is second-to-none. Although these homes are priced at a premium compared to other homes in the area, the value they bring will no doubt be a quality investment for years to come.
Those that have lived on or near the St. Johns River never forget its majesty. The slow moving black water has a lasting effect on the psyche, one that seems to carry away the anxieties of the day in the river’s northern current.
Convenience. That is the best word to describe DeLand’s Crystal Cove subdivision. This community may be one of the most convenient places to live in the city. It is located at the corner of McGregor Road and Crystal Oak Drive and is within walking distance of the shops of Country Club Corners that include Publix, Starbucks, and soon, Chick-fil-A. Access to Interstate 4 is less than ten minutes away and Downtown DeLand is about 5 minutes away.
One of the most scenic areas of DeLand is the beautiful Glenwood area. Its landscape is unmistakable as you travel along famed Grand Avenue. The beautiful live oak trees that line the road are enough to prompt feelings of serenity as if you were on a Sunday drive in the deep south. Aside from the landscape, Glenwood is the perfect place for a bike ride via the Spring-to-Spring trail or a great place to launch your boat to access the St. Johns River at Highland Park Fish Camp.
Located in south DeLand near the Saddlebrook community is another beautiful subdivision that complements the area well. Wellington Woods has only recently been completely built and offers upscale homes that are perfect for families or those that want to enjoy all of the local conveniences and attractions, as well as close proximity to beautiful Downtown DeLand.
It is no secret that the buzz around DeLand has been the commercial development along S. Woodland Blvd near the Publix shopping center at Country Club Corners. With the new Starbucks, soon-to-be Chick-fil-A, and other establishments to come, the area is becoming a popular hub with a lot to offer. Now, a new residential subdivision is within a short walk of these new retail outlets and restaurants.
One of the biggest draws for families when finding a new place to live is close proximity to their child’s school. When thinking of Small Town, USA, many think of images of television towns like Mayberry where walking to school was common and safe. Although there probably aren’t many places like Mayberry left, DeLand has a few communities that provide children a safe walking distance to school.
Back in the 1990s, Victoria Park was the inspiration of development company Arvida. Since that time, it changed the landscape of residential homes in South DeLand. Victoria Park's signature community, Victoria Hills, offers a golf course lifestyle among several other amenities that position this community with some of the best that Central Florida has to offer.
Even if you are not a literary fan, you have likely heard of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings or are familiar with her work. In 1939 she won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction for her novel "The Yearling." The book was later adapted into a movie staring Gregory Peck. The setting of the book and movie put North Central Florida on the map as the author gave insight into what life was like in the rugged days of Florida's past.
DeLand contains many fabulous communities and subdivisions throughout town. Some of the communities on the south side of town (Victoria Park, Saddlebrook, etc.) are convenient for many residents, providing easy access to Interstate 4. However, if you are looking for more of a laid back and rural atmosphere, North DeLand has a community that might be the perfect place for you to hang your hat.
The DeLand area offers a lot versatility when it comes to community options. For some, a traditional subdivision is the ideal place to live and raise a family. Areas such as Victoria Park and Saddlebrook have the traditional benefits of subdivisions and have easy access to Interstate 4, while being close to town. For others, a rural setting with more land is preferable. If more acreage and space is your ideal place to live, West Volusia contains the perfect community that is within close proximity to Downtown DeLand.
An older community that is very spread out, but is still 10 minutes away from downtown is Glenwood. The Glenwood area reaches from State Road 44 (New York Ave.) all the way to Deleon Springs along Grand Avenue. This is approximately an eight mile stretch that is decorated by beautiful live oak and water oak trees. Glenwood has a lot of benefits that suite those who may be seeking a more scenic and laid back lifestyle. Some of the highlights include: 1. Scenic bicycle path. Stretching most of the Glenwood area along Grand Avenue, this path is great for serious bicyclists or family riders alike. The path is part of the Spring-to-Spring Trail, stretching from Deleon Springs to Blue Springs State Park and beyond. It is the perfect place to burn some extra calories before sunset. Florida offers plenty of opportunities for those looking to retire in the Sunshine State, offering some of the best retirement communities in the world. In fact, you've probably heard of one community over the rest, The Villages.
The Villages is a mega-retirement community located in sections of Lake, Marion and Sumter counties. The population is more than 114,000. The community is popular because of its numerous golf courses, recreation centers, restaurants and shopping. However, you don't have to live in The Villages to enjoy retirement life at its finest in Florida. We have an amazing retirement center in DeLand that offers a different experience. Cresswind at Victoria Gardens is a 55+ community located as part of the larger Victoria Park development in DeLand, Fla. The community has a lot to offer and is a completely different experience than The Villages. Below are 7 reasons why Cresswind at Victoria Gardens might be the place to hang your hat instead of the Villages. 1) Conveniently located 20 minutes from New Smyrna Beach. 2) Only 45 minutes away from the Orlando theme parks. 3) Close to the St. Johns River and some of the best scenery that Central Florida has to offer. DeLand is a very unique city. It has a warm, small-town feel in the downtown area, but also has many great subdivisions that echo a neighborly town with southern charm. One of those subdivisions is Saddlebrook. Once someone steps foot into the Saddlebrook community, it feels like stepping back in time, when life moved at a slower pace. The brains behind the community is well-know developer, Taylor Morrison. In other nearby areas like Heathrow, Taylor Morrison homes are a premium. However, this subdivision in DeLand is an excellent value for the potential homebuyer.
