If you’ve been watching Stetson University Football over the past five seasons since the reboot of the program, it has been difficult to watch at times. But, it looks like the program has finally turned a corner with its first winning season. On November 17, the Hats closed out the season in style with a record-setting 45-31 victory over visiting Valparaiso at Spec Martin Stadium to close out an 8-2 campaign.
Finding the perfect home in the right location is often a challenge, especially when the idea of “perfect” is different for each person. When you are looking for just the right new place, think about what it is you envision as not just your dream home, but also your dream lifestyle.
Do you want to get away for a quick weekend trip? Need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the week? Look no further than DeLand, Florida. Located in between the best of Florida’s offerings on I-4, the beach and the theme parks, DeLand is quickly growing into a destination for shoppers, art aficionados, music and theater lovers, foodies and college sports fans. In fact, you could park your car and not need it again until your stay is over with all that downtown DeLand has to offer. We welcome you to our town and know that you’ll fall in love with delightful DeLand, the Athens of the Florida.
It’s almost fall and football season is here, and for hometown college football fans, that means that the Stetson Hatter Football program is about to get underway for another season. Fans will gather at Spec Martin stadium as they will gather all across the across the country on Saturdays to witness their teams compete for college football supremacy on the gridiron. Football brings out passionate fans and encourages excitement like no other sport. However, there are other great competitive sports to watch our hometown student-athletes compete in.
Like waterfront property, people also move to Florida for golf course communities. Golf is a mainstay of Florida life. It draws players from young to old. For some, living in a golf-course community is the ultimate lifestyle. But is it right for you?
DeLand is evolving into a cultural hub in many ways. One way is through the arts thanks to organizations such as the Athens Theater, Stetson University and the DeLand Museum of Art. We are blessed to have quality talent come through our small town. An example of that talent is the works of artist M.C. Escher, now on display at the DeLand Museum of Art.
If you attended George Marks Elementary as a kid, raise your hand. Okay, you probably look ridiculous, so you can put it down. If you grew up in DeLand and went to George Marks, you aren’t alone with several other longtime residents who proudly state they are a GME Bulldog.
Anyone who has walked the streets of DeLand knows what a jewel it is. After all, its downtown was named “America’s Mainstreet” in 2017. But, what you may not know is that DeLand is home to a new local “celebrity” thanks to a commercial for the prescription drug Chantix. Mark Blanchette, a fine arts photographer who calls DeLand home, was featured in the commercial that started airing in January. One of the settings is DeLand's Forno Bello restaurant.
You may have never heard of Erica Group, but you've likely seen her art, especially if you follow anyone on social media that lives in the DeLand area. Erica is the creator of the DeLand wings, a mural in Downtown DeLand that has come to be a social media phenomena.
