Russ has been a DeLand resident his entire life. He is a carpenter by trade, thanks to lessons from his father. He has been doing woodworking as a business for the last eight years. Most of the items that Russ creates are furniture pieces for businesses and individuals, along with various wood accessories. Every piece tells a story and is crafted with the utmost care and precision.
Humbly, Russ does not consider himself an artistic person and says his designs are not truly unique, although every piece is inspired. He draws inspiration from a classic "Shaker" style furniture and even Ikea, but uses the best quality wood and "joinery" to make each piece last for years to come, possibly becoming heirlooms. "My furniture is purely functional, and not necessarily trendy. I believe in classical styles that will stand the test of time."
So other than his amazing quality, what do Russ's customers love about doing business with him? "My customers love it when I involve them in the process. They feel like they have a hand in creating the piece. I usually try to involve them from design creation to accompanying me in choosing the wood. They really love it and have a pride in the finished product," he says.
The economic uniqueness of DeLand goes very deep. Russ is one of many examples that we hope to share with you.
