The charm and quaintness of downtown DeLand expanded again in April thanks to the opening of The Create Space at 112 E New York Ave (located in the Dreka Building). Ginny-Beth Joiner, born and raised DeLand resident, renovated the space and unleashed her creative expertise on the empty space. For decades, she has crafted, painted, created, and designed under the name “Martha MacGyver”; a nod to the craftiness of Martha Stewart and the creative abilities of fictional character and 80’s TV icon “MacGyver”.
Now, she’s taken all those skills and tricks to create a home-grown place where all of our creative energies can flow. The Create Space is a place for anyone and everyone. From the uber talented and skilled to those who can barely handle a glue gun without incurring injury.
Not only is The Create Space charming and bright and welcoming with its soothing color palette and design, but it is also multifaceted for all ages, skill levels and patrons. The Create Space offers weekly evening group classes where students are led in a variety of skills like painting, cross stitch, journal creation, charcuterie boards and door hangers. It also offers a twice-monthly kids’ club where kids can paint, play with perler beads, make slime and create sensory kits. It even offers a Lego table where kids can pay a small fee and free play.

And best of all, the studio is open daily for walk-in crafting-no class or group session needed. The Create Space will provide the supplies, tools and space.
