Recently, the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency met to rank three plans to give new life to the old Volusia County Jail that sits on the block between W. New York Ave. and Georgia Ave. The project is expected to enhance the area near the Artisan Alley area, a popular area off Woodland Blvd.
The wait is finally over. Local fans can finally rejoice. Chipotle is open! The Mexican grill chain with a DeLand location at 2335 S. Woodland Blvd, prides itself on sourcing high quality ingredients and responsible farming. Those amazing burritos are complemented perfectly with their one-of-a-kind tortilla chips, perfect for dipping in salsa or guacamole. Chipotle in DeLand is open 10:45 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. seven days a week.
The purchase of a commercial property by an individual (for investment purposes) or business (for either investment or business operation purposes) can be filled with the potential for missing key information that can be very costly to the buyer. Purchasers of commercial real estate are typically considered to be sophisticated parties, and whatever consumer protection laws may exist in a state for the protection of residential home purchasers seldom apply, if ever, to a commercial real estate purchaser. The adage of “buyer beware” particularly applies to commercial real estate purchases and warrants careful application of due diligence procedures and checklists.
Some of the commercial projects that have been ongoing in DeLand have finally been completed or are near completion, just in time for the holidays. We thought we would provide you with a commercial construction update, holiday edition.
A big appeal for those who visit DeLand is the history. There are so many stories about Henry DeLand, Jon B. Stetson, and the like. Now, visitors can take a step back in time when staying over night, thanks to the vision of the property’s new owner.
Daytona Beach is looking to revitalize it's downtown area, and it looks like insurance giant Brown & Brown, Inc. plans to be the catalyst. Last month the company unveiled plans to build a 10-story, $25 million riverfront headquarters on Beach Street. The new building will be home to 600 additional employees that Brown & Brown plans to hire, which will be an economic surge to East Volusia County.
The topic of cancer hits home with many of us, because most of us know a friend or family member that has been affected by the disease in some way. The DeLand community is very vocal about standing up for those who have been plagued by cancer, thanks to events like the MeStrong 5K. Local treatment facilities are abundant as well. Thankfully, DeLand is home to a new independent cancer treatment center.W. AKE MARY BLVD.
We have a few more commercial updates for the month of September. On North Woodland Blvd, a new Subway restaurant is being built next to the current location. According to the West Volusia Beacon, the new restaurant is expected to be completed and open by this fall.
Once again, DeLand has commercial construction projects that are visible along Woodland Blvd. Here are a few updates on three major projects.
West Volusia fans of Halifax Hospital, Daytona’s long-standing, state-owned hospital, will no longer need to drive to the east side of the county for emergency care. Halifax Health is building a freestanding emergency room in Deltona, but that is just the beginning. Drivers along the intersection of Interstate 4 and State Road 472 can currently see the status of the new facility that was originally slated to open December of 2016, but it appears the complex will not open until early 2017. This is only the first phase of what is expected to be a major medical hub for the healthcare provider.
